A very popular, hardy, and attractive deciduous flowering climbing vine native to Japan.

Foliage

A vigorous growing vine with dense, dark-green pinnate leaves which consist of 15 lance-shaped leaflets, which also put on a nice display in autumn.

Flowers

  • Produces masses of long drooping clusters of pea-like, highly fragrant, purple-mauve flowers up to 40cm long during spring. 
  • They put on a spectacular display!

Usage

  • Excellent for training over walls, arches, pergolas and fences
  • As standards, for places that require summer shade
  • Over archways over long walkways and driveways.

Comments

  • Wisterias a very hardy, however they prefer a sunny, well-drained site with space and robust support. 
  • Keep moist during dry weather.
  • If possible, prune after flowering back to 5-6 buds to promote profuse flowering and to control size.
